Brief / This university project uses abstracted typography to create a mock-up mural design which communicates a message in the environment.
Solution / Bricklayers Arms flyover bridge was going to be demolished because of negative responses from the local community, calling it an ‘eyesore’ and ugly. This project proposed a way of tackling those issues and responding to those negative viewpoints through use of graphic art and typography. The mock-ups have been created on photoshop responding to the comments previously made hidden in the design; using phrases like “am I still ugly?” and “ugly is beautiful”. I wanted to dissect the concept of beauty in a colourful and responsive way that plays with the environment and its original structure, highlighting the beauty within its ‘ugliness’.
